Asymmetric Data Routing with Prefetching for Hot-Spotted Network

In the future, wireless access networks will diversify, and they are quite different in their characteristics. We focus on data transmission rate and area coverage, and assume overlay network composed of hot-spotted network and cellular network. Hot-spotted network indicates highspeed wireless network and very limited communication area due to its spotted cell. A mobile user cannot continuously communicate on hot-spotted network because its cells are intermittently configured. In this paper, we present Proactive Data Transfer in which a mobile user sends his data requests through cellular network in advance and the data is prefetched in prefetch agent located in hot-spotted network. With proactive data transfer, the data can be downloaded as soon as the user enters into the cell of hot-spotted networks, and as a result, network resources are utilized efficiently. We also show the experimental results of proactive data transfer by implementation.
